Topic starter

Guys, hi. I have   question - maybe someone has already encountered this. I am applying to  university abroad, and they require personal essay from me. I understand that it should be about me, but I don’t know where to start. What topics are best to choose? Should I write like in a school essay or can I write something simpler? I was told that I need to be sincere, but I don’t know how to do it so that it doesn’t sound boring. Are there any examples of such essays or templates? And also - what does the commission really pay attention to?

I also wrote a personal essay when I was applying. The most important thing is to be yourself and not make up stories. This is not an analytical essay, but a story about you. Read the article here - https://www.ozessay.com.au/blog/personal-essay/ - it is very clearly explained what it is. It helped me understand that you need to not just describe an event, but show how it affected you. The main thing is sincerity, structure (introduction, main part, conclusion) and specific examples. You can start with a story that changed your view on something. Good luck to you!

Don't try to be "perfect", show how you changed, grew, coped with something. For example, I wrote about my failure at the Olympiad and how it motivated me. It is important for them to understand who you are inside. And also - don't be shy about asking someone to read your text before sending it.
